Luke Troy, San Marino, CA (10) – State Qualifier
Justin Thomas, Santiago, CA (11) – State 3rd
Nick Vestal, Dayton Christian, OH (11) – State Runner-Up

Outlook: This weight has it all: a premeir potential finals matchup and depth to boot. Both will have to naviagte a hellacious path, but at this point all signs point to Joseph wrestling White in the finals. This would be a rematch from Fargo where White topped Joseph in the Junior Freestyle finals. However, going from Freestyle to Folkstyle is probably in Joseph’s favor. Looking at the rest of the field, Kutler and Maruca don’t quite have the overall pedigree of Joseph and White, but have shown that they have ability to beat just about anyone when clicking on all cylinders.

Prediction: 1) Joseph 2) White 3) Maruca 4) Kutler

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (5)
#1 Mason Manville, Blair Academy, NJ (11) – National Prep Champ
#3 Alex Marinelli, St Paris Graham, OH (11) – 2X State Champ
#4 Josh Shields, Franklin Regional, PA (12) – State Runner-Up
#7 Chris Weiler, Wyoming Seminary, PA (11) – National Prep Runner
Up
#18 Matt Rundell, OPRF, IL (12) – State Champ

Others to Watch
Paden Bailey, Broken Arrow, OK (12) – 2X State Runner-Up
Trace Carello, Marmion, IL (11) – State 4th
Lorenzo De La Riva, Folsom, CA (12) – State 6th
Colston DiBlasi, Park Hill, MO (12) – 2X State Champ
Randy Meneweather, Washington, IL (11) – State Champ
Ben Schram, Bellbrook, OH (12) – 2X State 3rd

Outlook: Following back-to-back runner-up finishes at Ironman, Manville looks the like the guy to beat this time around. He’ll have to earn it though with studs like Marinelli, Shields, and Weiler present. Like Manville, Marinelli is also a 2X runner-up at this event. He has all the physical tools but it remains to be seen if he can match Manville’s pace for 6 minutes. Shield was a breakout star in Fargo this summer where he placed 3rd and gave Manville his toughest test of the tournament. As of now odds are high that it will be Shields/Marinelli in the semis with the winner advancing to take on Manville.

Prediction: 1) Manville 2) Marinelli 3) Shields 4) Weiler

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (6)
#2 Anthony Valencia, St John Bosco, CA (12) – 2X State Champ
#3 Nick Reenan, Wyoming Seminary, PA (11) – National Prep Runner-Up
#5 Kamal Bey, OPRF, IL (11) – State Champ
#5 @160 Brandon Dallavia, Blair Academy, NJ (11) – National Prep 4th
#10 David-Brian Whisler, Warren Howland, OH (12) – State 4th
#17 Jacob Warner, Washington, IL (10) – State Runner-Up

Others to Watch
Sergio Chavez, Seton Catholic, AZ (11) – State Champ
James Handwerk, Lutheran West, OH (10) – Cadet Freestyle 5th
Jesse Palser, Mansfiled, OH (12) – State Runner-Up
Chance Sonnenburg, Van Buren, OH (12) – 2X State 5th
Zach Sullivan, National Trail, OH (12) – State 3rd

Outlook: Here the question is whether anyone can hang with Valencia. Reenan leads a pack of studs, but Valencia may be on another level. Over the past couple years very few guys at the high school level have had any success at all stopping Valencia’s offense. Reenan probably has the best chance to compete, but he’ll have a huge test against Dallavia in the semis. Meanwhile, Bey is one of the most explosive athletes in the country and is willing to take big risks. Everyone should be on high alert whenever he takes the mat.

Prediction: 1) Valencia 2) Reenan 3) Dallavia 4) Bey
