Preview Maryland vs. #15 Rutgers

A young Maryland team comes to north Jersey to take on a buzzing Scarlet Knights wrestling team. Both teams will be missing some talent during the dual but after some quick observations this dual, which was originally slated for Yankee stadium, looks to serve up some B1G red meat to the Run fans. Look for highlights and interviews to be posted after the match.

125lbs: #3 Nick Suriano RU vs. Brandon Cray UM. Suriano’s first match for Rutgers is a litmus test for me. Last year Suriano would have teched Cray. I think Nick wants to put on a show and will go for the fall. The difference between these two in neutral makes me think Tech Fall.
133lbs: #14 Scott DelVecchio RU vs. Doetsch UM. I expected a bit more from DelVecchio in college. He needs bonus points here to build his mental approach for the season.
141lbs: Michael Van Brill RU vs. #13 Ryan Diehl UM. I have this as a toss up. I haven’t seen MVB in the room. Diehl is inconsistent, beating a few ranked guys last year but also getting knocked off by much lesser foes.
149lbs: Eleazar DeLuca RU vs. Adam Whitesell UM. Toss up
157lbs: #6 Richie Lewis RU vs. Kyle Cochran UM. Lewis hasn’t wrestled in college in about a year. I think that he’s grown a lot. Lewis with bonus points.
165lbs: John Van Brill RU vs. Brendan Burnham UM. I don’t think that Burnham is ready for JVB style. Bonus JVB. If Ugalde goes I think that it’s a closer match.
174lbs: #16 Jordan Pagano RU vs. Spencer Woods UM. Maryland puts another young guy out on the mats to face a tough Pagano. I don’t know much about Woods and Pagano has had some match up challenges in the past if he can’t get to the ankle attack. Pagano by bonus over the freshman.
184lbs: #10 Nick Gravina RU vs. Jaron Smith UM. Gravina mauls Smith for a fall.
197lbs: Kevin Mulligan RU vs. DB Whisler UM. I saw both guys once last season-toss up.
285lbs: Razohnn Gross vs. #20 Youssif Hermida UM. Toss Up? Last year I would have taken Hermida. Hermida didn’t do as well as the previous year but still beat some ranked guys. Gross improved with every match last season and has a match strategy and mental toughness that is hard to come by.

32-9 RU?
