Coming into the season the 4peat Nittany Lions had more unknowns than any other top team in the country. The loss of David Taylor and Ed Ruth won’t be easy to get over but by next year the team will be seriously competing for a National Title. Their line up appears to be coming into focus enough that the last unknown appears to be heavyweight. I’m projecting:
125 Jordan Conaway Jr. Nico is so close to a world team and Olympics that I think he will take an Olympic shirt next season.
133 Jimmy Gulibon So.
141 Kade Moss RS Fr. As mentioned earlier on this site Zain Retherford will take a redshirt this season help set up a very strong lineup for the next 3+ years.
149 Zack Beitz So. , Andrew Alton Sr., one of my favorite wrestlers, might be able to return Jan/Feb but will this be enough time to regain his form, to not get injured again, get his conditioning and beat out Beitz? I don’t think so but I’m hoping that we get to see AA make a run at a National Title in March.
157 Dylan Alton Sr.
165 Garett Hammond RS Fr.
174 Matt Brown Sr.
184 Matt McCutcheon RS Fr.
197 Morgan McIntosh Jr.
285 James Lawson or Jon Gingrich is a toss up. I don’t think that we’ll know the starter until after the Southern Scuffle. Lawson won the starting role last season until an injury gave Gingrich the role. He did well in the role. Lawson appeared to turn a corner last season prior to the injury. That said, neither 285lber. was in State College working out over the summer. Even with injuries and redshirts this can still be a top 10 team and could be Cael Sanderson’s best job coaching if they can land in the top 5 or 6 at Nationals. Looking forward to covering their season here at True-Wrestling.com
