Talk about it in The Lions Den
Prior to the start of Tuesday afternoon’s wrestling practice, a special guest was in the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex, instructing members of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club in the center of the room.
That guest? U.S. national team freestyle coach Bruce Burnett, who is stopping by State College for a couple days to visit with two of his team members – Jake Varner and Ed Ruth – as well as meet with current student-athletes who one day could also be part of his team.
Gulibon’s 9-2 win at Maryland Thursday “should be a confidence booster for him and for the whole team,” Sanderson said.
“They’re welcome here any time,” head coach Cael Sanderson said about the national team coaches. “We love having them up here. (Them making the trip from Colorado Springs) just depends on if we have guys who are going to make the team, or have strong potential. We have two guys that he’s out here visiting – with Ed and with Varner – and just talking about the plan, talking about the last worlds and all that good stuff.”

Alton twins inch closer to return

Sanderson provided a quick progress update on redshirt seniors Andrew Alton and Dylan Alton, who both underwent off-season operations.

“Andrew has been cleared to drill,” Sanderson confirmed. “He was cleared last week, so he’s a little bit ahead of schedule. And Dylan is planing on wrestling at the Scuffle. So that’s the plan right now.”
