#1 Olivas is set to make his Ironman debut

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (3)
#1 Cade Olivas, St John Bosco, CA (9) – Super 32 Champ
#6 Anthony Madrigal, OPRF, IL (9) – Cadet FS AA
#10 Drew Mattin, Delta, OH (10) – State 3rd

Others to Watch

Matt Kazimir, St Edward, OH (9) – OAC Junior High Champ
Justin Stickley, St Paris Graham, OH (11) – State 6th
Josh Venia, Massillon Perry, OH (11) – State 3rd

Outlook: This weight is very much a mystery heading into Ironman, definitely more so than any other. Olivas earned the #1 spot in the rankings with a great season highlighted by a Super 32 title. Madrigal is the next in line, but Olivas may just be a step ahead of the field.

Prediction: 1) Olivas 2) Mattin 3) Madrigal 4) Stickley

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (8)
#4 Devin Brown, Franklin Regional, PA (12) – 2X State Champ

#17 Paxton Rosen, Edmond North, OK (10) – State Champ
#18 Joey Prata, St Christopher’s, VA (11) – Nation Prep Champ

Others to Watch
Jarod Bronstrup, Brecksville, OH (11) – State 5th
Tony DeCesare, Padua Franciscan, OH (11) – State Runner-Up
Devione Edwards, Lorain, OH (11) – State 3rd
Alan Hart, St Edward, OH (10) – State 7th
Keegan Hessler, Scottsbluff, NE (12) – State Champ
Tommy Hoskins, Dayton Christian, OH (9) – OAC Junior High Runner-Up
Zac McCaulley, Massillon Perry, OH (12) – 2X Cadet FS AA
Dack Punke, Washington, IL (10) – State 3rd

Outlook: This is one of the deepest weights of the tournament. Brown is the favorite, but there’s an onslaught of contenders behind him. Renteria , a recent Iowa commit, had a phenomenal preseason including a Preseason National title up at 120lbs. Baughman also impressed this fall, making the finals at Super 32 where he fell to top-ranked Spencer Lee. Rosen’s another guy capable of a deep run. He was pretty quiet over the preseason, but finished 3rd at Ironman a year ago.

Prediction: 1) Brown 2) Renteria 3) Moore 4) Rosen

Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (7)
#1 @113 Spencer Lee, Franklin Regional, PA (10) – State Champ
#6 Jack Mueller, Wyoming Seminary, PA (11) – 2X Prep National Champ
#10 Eli Stickley, St Paris Graham, OH (12) – State Champ
#12 Doyle Trout, Centennial, NE (12) – 3X State Champ
#15 Tyler Warner, Uhrichsville Claymont, OH (11) – 2X State Champ
#17 Elijah Oliver, Washington, IL (12) – 3X TN State Champ
#19 @126 Alex Mackall, Walsh Jesuit, OH (11) – State Champ

Others to Watch
Mario Guillen, Perrysburg, OH (11) – State 3rd
Ethan Koan, Park Hill, MO (12) – State 3rd
Alex Madrigal, OPRF, IL (12) – State 5th
Michael May, Dayton Christian, OH (12) – 2X State 6th
Jake Newhouse, Massillon Perry, OH (12) – State Runner-Up
Requi Van Der Merwe, Blair Academy, NJ (11) – National Prep 3rd

Outlook: Only a sophomore, Lee may already be the country’s most dominant high school wrestler. He tore through Ironman a year ago and this time around should be no different. The rest of the field is extremely balanced and a lot of different scenarios could play out. Look for Mackall to have a big day. He struggled at Super 32, but is back down to his natural weight and will be competing in his home gym.

Prediction: 1) Lee 2) Mackall 3) Mueller 4) Stickley
