Results of the Professional Card
MAIN EVENT – (#1 USA #8 World) Brent Metcalf dec. Aaron Pico, 4-1. Can Pico close the gap over the next year and earn an US Olympic team berth at 66 KG? After the match it appeared that both wrestlers don’t really like each other. Wrestling is an intense sport and unlike the critics I understand that the intensity can’t just be turned off when the whistle blows. If you demand that from athletes go watch a non-intense sport like chess, basketball or croquet.
CO-MAIN EVENT – Tony Ramos pin Henry Cejudo, 5:58. Ramos with a come from behind cradle pin for the win. It’s unclear how much Cejudo prepared for this match with his MMA career.
Matt McDonough dec. Angel Escobedo, 6-2. This is a serious upset Escobedo took 5th at the World Championships in 2013. McDonough’s highest achievement was to place 3rd at the World Team Trials last year.
Jason Welch dec. Derek St. John, 12-10. This was a rematch of the 2013 NCAA final with the results switched.
Deron Winn dec. Phillip Keddy, 6-3
So if you were put off by the post match emotions and attitude get used to it. Especially as the sport tries to grow. This type of behavior is rampant in most professional sports.
