#1 Iowa beats Ivy Power #12 Princeton 30-9 Highlights, Photos and Interviews

Almost 2,300 fans poured into Jadwin Gymnasium today to catch a glimpse of the number one team in the country face off with Princeton. Iowa recently climbed the polls and currently sits as the best dual team in the country. Princeton has also climbed the polls recently beating Lehigh and losing to Oklahoma State by 3. This had all the makings of a top 10 showdown. The only problem for Princeton is the separation between #1 and #10 can be much greater than 10 and 20. Just ask formerly #5 Wisconsin, who won just one match versus Iowa a couple of weeks ago.

The crowd got to see 14 ranked wrestlers compete, missing only Spencer Lee for the projected starting lineups. Two ranked wrestlers squared off against each other at 149, 157 and 197 and the fans got to see some great suspense riddled wrestling.

Coming into the match Iowa was favored 9 of 10 matches. Princeton won 3 bouts and lost 2 very tight matches. I know Coach Ayres thought the Tigers could win, so maybe it’s a moral victory; or at least a ‘see how close we can get’ victory for the Tigers.

Iowa has 5 Pennsylvania and 1 Ohio wrestler(s) starting for them and while Princeton gave them a tussle, getting exposure in the wrestling rich state of New Jersey can’t be a bad thing for their recruiting.

I’ll give a more in-depth round-up of the match in a podcast on Monday. You can click any match hyperlink for highlights or names above for post-match interviews.

Princeton is back in action December 19 versus in state rival Rider at 7pm in Dillion Gym. Iowa is back at it when they go to Midlands December 29-30.
